Meet Maria

I grew up on the Texas–Mexico border, and that’s not a bio detail — it’s the reason I do this work the way I do.

On the border, women hold a lot: households, elders, children, whole communities. They do it with grace, in two languages, and they very rarely put themselves on the list. My practice is a place where you get to be on the list.

My work

Who ends up in my office.

I sit with women who are quietly running on empty. Some are carrying something old that never quite settled. Some are in the middle of a divorce and need somewhere the story can be told without judgment. Some are grieving a loss no one held a funeral for. Some are teenagers who just need a Spanish- or English-speaking adult who isn’t their mother.

My style is warm and plain-spoken. I’m not going to hand you a worksheet before I know your name. I draw on cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, holistic and client-centered approaches — but the through-line of my work is helping families and individuals find their own light and motivation.

My hope, always, is to help plant a seed of hope for the better life we all deserve.

How sessions feel

Unhurried. In your language. Without a script.

01

The first session is mostly listening

You don't need to arrive with a tidy story. I ask, gently, and we follow whatever thread has the most life in it.
02

We move at your pace

Some weeks that means going into something old. Some weeks it means figuring out how to get through this Thursday. Both count.
03

You choose the language

English, Spanish, or the natural mix bilingual women speak. Grief and tenderness often live in the language you first learned them in.
04

Feedback is welcome

If something isn't working, tell me. I would rather adjust than have you quietly decide therapy is not for you.
05

What I won't do

No worksheets before I know your name. No lectures. No promises to fix you — because you are not broken.

Curious if we'd be a fit? Start with a short, no-pressure conversation.

Two languages, one practice

Spanish is not a translation in my office.

It’s the language many of my clients feel most themselves in — the language grief and tenderness and old memories tend to live in. Sessions can run fully in English, fully in Spanish, or in the natural mix bilingual women speak at home.

I grew up on the border. I know the difference between speaking Spanish and being understood in Spanish, and I know how tiring it is to translate your inner life for a therapist who doesn’t quite catch it.
