The Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex is enormous, and its Mexican-American community anchors whole sections of it — Oak Cliff and Pleasant Grove on the Dallas side, the North Side in Fort Worth, and a fast-growing professional class spread across the suburbs. It is also a place where distance quietly eats your week. Between the two downtowns and the sprawl in every direction, a "quick" appointment can cost you ninety minutes in the car before you've said a word — which is exactly why so many people who need therapy here never start. The clients I meet from DFW are often the ones holding the middle: the sandwich-generation daughter caring for aging parents and her own children at once, the working mother who is the emotional thermostat for an entire household, the person who is doing fine by everyone's measure except her own.
