Nuevo Laredo sits on one side of the river, Laredo sits on the other, and most of the families I work with have lives that cross both. That geography shapes the therapy. It shapes the languages people dream in, the way they were raised to think about strength, and the reasons some things have never been said out loud. I have practiced on this border for many years. The populations I serve have been mainly Latino since I live on the border, and much of what shows up in the room here — expectations placed on the oldest daughter, silence around grief, the pressure of being the first in a family to make it out and make it work — has a particular local shape. I am not translating those experiences from a textbook. They are the world I live in. ## Therapy in English or Spanish Sessions can run fully in English, fully in Spanish, or in the natural mix most bilingual women actually speak. When you are describing the day your mother stopped speaking to you, you should not also be doing simultaneous translation. There is no interpreter here. It is just the two of us. For Spanish-speaking women in particular, this matters. Certain feelings only exist in the first language. Vergüenza is not exactly shame. Coraje is not exactly anger. When those words are allowed in the room, the work moves faster and lands deeper. ## In person in Laredo, or online across Texas Some clients want the ritual of coming to an office — the drive there, the door closing, the physical distance from the rest of the week. Others need therapy to fit into a life that is already overflowing, and telehealth is the only way it becomes real. Both are legitimate. Both are effective. You can also move between them: telehealth for busy weeks, in person when you have the time. By telehealth I see clients anywhere in Texas — San Antonio, the Valley, Houston, Austin, small towns without a bilingual counselor. My license only lets me work with clients physically located in Texas, and I am careful about that boundary. ## What I work with Most of my practice is with women carrying quiet, heavy loads: chronic [anxiety](/counseling-for-anxiety), past [trauma](/counseling-for-trauma) that has never had a witness, [depression](/therapy-for-depression) that hides behind competence, [grief](/grief-counseling) that got postponed because someone had to keep the family running, and the [burnout](/burnout-therapy-texas) that comes from being the one everyone leans on. I also work with [teens](/teen-therapy-laredo), and I conduct clinical evaluations for immigration hardship cases. What I do not work with, so you are not surprised on a first call: addiction, anger management, and personality disorders.
